Sprouting new ideas

I worked at Sprout as an industrial designer working on Montessori-style furniture for children. Here are a few things I worked on.

Bench planter

I designed a pot for plants with room to sit on the edge for a Montessori style classroom. I designed in Solidworks, and learned Draftsight and Mastercam. I used those programs to CNC machine a planter and the stairs I created. I really enjoyed watching the CNC cut out my designs on the wood. This got de-prioritized because of COVID, but here are some process shots.

Makerspace

I designed and illustrated products that could be used for a Makerspace board. I then created a survey to help determine which customers would be most interested in.

Photography

I also learned product photography. They had a certain style they wanted me to match, so I learned to set-up a room with props, get the lighting right, coach the children playing, then shoot it all. I also edited photos in Lightroom and then organized them in InDesign for a catalog for potential customers to see what products we offer. This all had to be in a strict Montessori pattern.

I had to learn in-depth Montessori methods so I could match the style perfectly.
