Project overview

Providers have too much work on their plates and not enough time to care for their patients. We wanted to help triage their workload.

Users

  • Mental health providers in value-based care facilities

  • Healthcare providers in value-based care facilities

  • Owners of facilities that want better patient-related outcomes

“Over fifty percent of providers experience symptoms related to burnout.”

This is significantly higher than the national average according to PubMed.

My provider: You really need to engage in better self-care.

Problems

Too many patients

Caseload was the only significant work-related factor predicting compassion fatigue in mental healthcare personnel
Source

+

Difficulty prioritizing

With too many patients, and a heavy workload, it’s difficult to decide who needs your attention most.

=

Staffing shortages

“Nearly three out of every four healthcare professionals surveyed said they had suffered burnout while working and had considered leaving medicine”

Solutions

Let AI do the boring work

Providers can easily review patient video sessions that have been evaluated by our AI, generating scores and summaries.

+

Triage

We give providers control over which metrics trigger alerts, which ensure that patients with the most critical needs are given top priority on the session list.

Less stressed

Streamlining workflows and improving patient visibility can lead to better care with less effort, improving staff retention and patient outcomes.

Let the AI do the boring work

Our platform sends patients a link to their session, once completed we generate three summary cards: alerts, summary, and details. These cards give an overview of the session, including video responses, transcripts, and AI markers.

To the right of the screen, providers can evaluate the session for billing purposes.

To triage: to determine the urgency and the nature of the treatment required.

By default, the list is sorted by alerts of the highest severity (indicated by the color red), followed by alerts of low severity (yellow), and finally, sessions with no alerts are filtered to the bottom.

To provide a quick overview of the alerts and video summaries, providers can utilize the "Quick view" function.

Patient progress

This page lets you see a patient’s progress in a longitudinal way. Before visiting with a patient in-person you could check out this page and get a quick run down on how they’ve been doing since you last met.

An early iteration

We’ve done many iterations based on feedback from providers that use the product daily.

Reflections

The experience

Throughout this process, I also realized the value of feedback and engaging in collaboration. I actively sought input from my colleagues in different departments, including engineering, customer success, product, and even marketing to ensure that the design aligned with our goals and needs.

It's important to recognize that I am not designing for myself but for our users and the company as a whole. I have come to appreciate the value of collaboration and that a successful design solution can only be achieved through the integration of multiple perspectives. By prioritizing collaboration and feedback, I am better equipped to create designs that meet the needs of both the company and our users.

What I’d do differently

I would have liked to involve our users more closely in the design process. While I did get feedback from people who work regularly with our customers, I believe that incorporating more direct user feedback would have helped me to create an even better user experience. In the future, I want to involve usability testing and user interviews more.

Another thing I would do differently is to prioritize accessibility from the beginning of the design process. While I did ensure that our designs met basic accessibility guidelines, I now realize that there is so much more that can be done to create a truly inclusive user experience.
