Overview

This platform lets patients have more touch points with their providers so that concerning symptoms can be caught quickly before they escalate.

Meet Rico:

Rico is a 19-year-old patient who has struggled with severe PTSD, depression, and anxiety. He was admitted to an inpatient treatment and was discharged one month ago.

Rico’s life is complicated, and a lot happens between in-person visits.

A more holistic perspective

Rico now has the opportunity to share important aspects of his life that may have been overlooked before. Recognizing that healthcare extends beyond surface-level considerations, this newfound ability enables him to receive a more comprehensive and tailored treatment. By taking these crucial aspects into account, Rico can achieve improved health outcomes.

Videra is Latin for “seen”

We find it essential for patients to feel seen, but in this world that is becoming increasingly difficult.

As Rico takes an assessment, our main focus is the video portion since that’s where the majority of where the “magic” (aka AI) happens and where he gets to express his authentic self.

Detail callout

Participants in our research expressed some discomfort about recording videos of themselves. Video data gives us more data to analyze, but we also value Rico participating in a way that feels comfortable. To strike a balance, the video was set as the main path, but I incorporated two opt-out locations: one at the beginning of the session before video permissions were requested, and another during the video experience.

This approach is a strategy inspired by the principles of behavioral economics found in the book Nudge which focuses on making desired actions convenient for users.

Empowering Rico

By offering the tools and resources to monitor and manage mild symptoms that have an impact on Rico, we enable him to take an active role in his self-care journey. This approach promotes a greater sense of empowerment and independence in managing his health.

Step in when needed

When more severe symptoms arise, we alert facilities immediately to provide the necessary support. In Rico's case, when he was experiencing suicidal thoughts, we promptly identified the situation and he received the critical assistance he needed, saving his life.

My role

As the sole designer on this project, I took ownership and ran with it from beginning to end. With the trust and autonomy given by my manager, I embraced the challenge and demonstrated my ability to work independently. From research and ideation to design execution, I crafted a visually stunning and intuitive solution that exceeded expectations.

Throughout the process, I actively gathered valuable feedback and articulated my design decisions. This showcased my strong presentation and storytelling skills, ensuring alignment with project goals. The experience not only strengthened my design expertise but also instilled in me a deep sense of ownership and accountability for my work.
